House no. 94, The Village.

House no. 94, The Village.

Dr. Samuel Frederick Strain, a doctor with the TVA arrived in Sheffield March 1, 1934, with his wife, Jess. They were transferred from Knoxville, and initially lived in house number 54 (further down from the bell on what is now Wilson Dam Ave).

They were delighted to be assigned house number 94 after it was renovated; it was a larger house and lot, big enough to plant a large vegetable garden.

He said that they found some of the “best friends they had known” while living here.

Excerpts from his book:

From the Nolichucky to Memphis: Reminisces of a Tennessee Doctor (by Dr. Samuel Frederick Strain)

And that is one of the many things that makes The Village special - that sense of community and connection; whether you lived here then or now, we’re all connected by this place, and that feeling stays with you.
